Nahid Akhtar is a renowned Pakistani singer known for her versatility across various music styles, including Pakistani film music, pop, ghazals, traditional classical music, Punjabi folk songs, qawwalis, naat, and hamds. Discovered by veteran musician M. Ashraf as a teenage sensation in the mid-1970s, she quickly rose to prominence, becoming a formidable competitor to Madam Noor Jehan and dominating Urdu film music for a period. Akhtar made her film debut with "Nanha Farishta" in 1974 and achieved significant success with super hit songs in the film "Shama" the same year. Throughout the 1970s, she showcased her stylistic mastery and became a familiar face on television. However, her focus gradually shifted towards cinema, prioritizing films over television. A talented singer, Nahid Akhtar enjoyed immense popularity in Pakistan. In the mid-1980s, she married journalist Asif Ali Pota and subsequently stepped away from the film scene.
