Nancy Dupree was an American author known for her poetry and plays. Born in 1935 in Sumter, South Carolina, she later moved North and became a teacher at School No. 4 in Rochester, New York. In 1970, she was dismissed from her teaching position for refusing to wear standard high heels, a decision that may have been influenced by her black feminist politics. Nancy Dupree passed away in 1980 at the age of 44, after secretly battling leukemia.
