Nancy Holloway was an American vocalist and actress born on December 11, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A. She moved to France in the 1950s and began performing in jazz clubs, often collaborating with a drummer. At the age of 16, she married a man named Holloway, but the marriage lasted only three months, after which she kept the surname. By 1960, her musical repertoire began to include rock’n’roll and rhythm’n’blues. In March 1961, she released “Be Bop A Lula,” originally by another artist, with her band “Rock’n’Rollers” under the direction of a yet unnamed collaborator on the PBM label. On May 31, 1961, she made her first appearance on the French TV show “Age tendre et tête de bois” alongside other artists. At the end of 1962, she signed with a record company, but after Ricordi went bankrupt, she negotiated a contract with another label. Nancy Holloway passed away on August 28, 2019, in Paris, France.
