Nathan Davis (1937–2018) was a distinguished American jazz multi-instrumentalist, proficient on tenor and soprano saxophones, bass clarinet, and flute. Born in Kansas City, Kansas, he collaborated with jazz luminaries such as Eric Dolphy, Kenny Clarke, Ray Charles, Slide Hampton, and Art Blakey. After moving to Paris in 1962, Davis immersed himself in the European jazz scene before returning to the U.S. in 1969 to establish and direct the Jazz Studies Program at the University of Pittsburgh. His contributions to jazz education and performance were recognized with the BNY Mellon Jazz Living Legacy Award in 2013.
