Nathan Haines is a saxophone player born in Auckland, New Zealand, on 18 January 1972. He comes from a renowned jazz family, with his father being a bassist and his brother a guitarist. Nathan began his music career in his late teens and early twenties, initially with Jazz Committee before forming his own band. He signed to a record label, and his debut solo album, released in 1995, became the biggest selling New Zealand-recorded jazz album of all time, released globally. In 1995, Haines moved to New York City and then to London, where he worked as a live musician and session player, including performances alongside a DJ at his Loft residency. He also began DJing and recorded drum'n'bass for a label before signing to another label, where he made two albums with a producer, his first release being with Phil. Nathan returned to New Zealand in the early 2000s.
