Nebulo, the experimental electronic/IDM project of French composer Thomas Pujols, was born in 1981 in Talence and is currently based in the Dordogne region of South-West France. He began his musical journey in 2006 with his first works released on Hymen Records, where he produced five albums before collaborating with various labels including Le Cabanon, Conditional, Stomoxine, Seagrave, Orange Milk, Phinery Tapes, and Fort Evil Fruit. After studying electroacoustic composition with Christian Eloy at the Bordeaux conservatory, Nebulo creates electronic music that emphasizes shape and form, stepping outside traditional academic boundaries while maintaining a focus on the materiality of acousmatic practices. He explores repetition and melody, extending them into micro-tonalities and polyrhythms. As an exclusively studio-based artist, Nebulo does not perform live, choosing instead to work in his woodland studio. His compositional approach is guided by a set of simple rules that enable him to create within a coherent sound environment for each release. This includes using specific techniques such as sound synthesis on albums like Zellige and Parallaxes, field recordings on Artefact, and sampling audio cassettes on Akzidens. Through these self-imposed constraints, Nebulo continually refreshes his artistic tools and explores the expressive potential of electronic music.
