Negative FX was a hardcore band from Boston, formed in 1981. The band, which lasted only a short time and played a total of five shows, was well-known for its involvement in the local straight edge scene of the early 1980s. Members included vocalist Jack Kelly, who often went by "Choke," guitarist Pat Raftery, bassist Rich Collins, and drummer Dave Bass, also known as Dave Bass Brown. Negative FX was part of the "Boston Crew," a group of friends who traveled around the country with other Boston hardcore bands like DYS and SS Decontrol (SSD). The band played fast and unmelodic hardcore punk, characterized by shouted gang vocals in the choruses. Negative FX released one self-titled album, recorded in April and November 1982 at Radiobeat Studios, which was not released until 1984 on Taang! Records. This album was later reissued in 1989 on various colored vinyl. In 2002, it was reissued again under the name Discography & Live, featuring a live version of "Might Makes Right," with different limited vinyl editions. Additionally, Distortions Records released the Government War Plans EP in 2003, which included early demos.
