Nektar was formed by a group of British musicians in the early to mid-seventies while living near Darmstadt, Southern Germany. They achieved significant success with their albums and live performances, which were renowned for their innovative sound and visual elements, including a psychedelic light show that accompanied their sets. The band's unique identity was further enhanced by the artwork of Helmut Wenske, who designed three of their most popular album covers. After disbanding following the death of lead vocalist Roye Albrighton in 2016, Nektar reformed in 2000 and later regrouped in 2019 with several founding members to record a new album featuring unreleased and new material dating back to 1978, once again showcasing Wenske's artwork. As of August 2019, the current lineup includes Derek "Mo" Moore on bass, Mick Brockett providing liquid lights, Randy Dembo on bass and 12-string guitar, Ryche Chlanda on guitars, Kendall Scott on keyboards, Maryann Castello on vocals, and Jay Dittamo on drums, who is set to join in 2024. The band has seen various former members, including Roye Albrighton, Ron Howden, Allan "Taff" Freeman, and others, contributing to its legacy over the years.
