Nelson Cavaquinho (October 29, 1911 – February 18, 1986) was a Brazilian composer, singer, and guitarist, renowned for his contributions to samba, particularly the subgenre of samba-canção. Born Nelson Antônio da Silva in Rio de Janeiro, he developed a unique guitar playing style using just two fingers. His compositions often explored melancholic themes related to love, life, and mortality. Some of his most famous songs include "Juízo Final," "A Flor e o Espinho," and "Folhas Secas," many of which he co-wrote with his longtime collaborator Guilherme de Brito. Although he had a modest commercial career, his work gained recognition through recordings by notable artists such as Beth Carvalho and Clara Nunes. Cavaquinho's music continues to influence Brazilian popular culture, with his songs being performed and reinterpreted by new generations of musicians.
