Nena is a German New Wave and synthpop band that was active from 1982 to 1987. The group was fronted by singer Gabriele "Nena" Kerner and included members Jörn-Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen (keyboards), Carlo Karges (guitar), Jürgen Dehmel (bass), and Rolf Brendel (drums). In 1984, they achieved international success with the hit song "99 Luftballons," which became an end-of-the-world fantasy anthem. Despite their initial success, the band struggled to maintain their popularity and ultimately split up in 1987. However, "99 Luftballons" has remained a timeless classic, and in 2002, Nena experienced a resurgence in her career. Following the split, credits generally refer to Gabriele Kerner as a solo artist, except for re-releases and compilations. It is important to distinguish between credits for the band and the solo artist, as well as the various forms of her name in those credits.
