Neneh Cherry is a Swedish singer born on March 10, 1964, in Stockholm, Sweden. She joined an English post-punk band in 1981 as a vocalist and later performed with several ex-members of that band. In the early 80s, she sang backing vocals for various artists, including in the mid-80s for "Slow Train To Dawn" (1987). In 1988, Cherry recorded the international hit single "Buffalo Stance." Her debut album, "Raw Like Sushi," featured an eclectic blend of hip-hop rhythms and pop melodies, earning her excellent reviews and sizeable sales. In 1990, she contributed to an AIDS-charity collection, singing Cole Porter's "I've Got You Under My Skin," but remained quiet until the release of "Homebrew" in 1992. Cherry reasserted herself as a commercial force in 1994 with the international hit single "Seven Seconds," collaborating with Senegalese superstar Youssou N'Dour. After another lengthy recording hiatus, she released the album "Man" in 1996, which included her last big hit single, "Woman." Neneh Cherry is the daughter of musician Ahmadu Jah and artist Monika Cherry, the step-daughter of jazz trumpeter Don Cherry, and the half-sister of singer Titiyo (same mother) and Swedish pop star Eagle-Eye Cherry (same father).
