Riz Maslen, known by her stage name Neotropic, has been an influential figure in the electronic music scene since 1995, standing out as one of the few acclaimed female producers. She began her career in the West Country, fronting various bands before moving to London during the vibrant Rave Scene. There, she collaborated with the ambient pioneers Future Sound of London, contributing to several of their albums and performing on Top of the Pops with their hit “Papua New Guinea.” In 1996, Riz signed with Ntone, a sister label of Ninja Tune, and released three critically acclaimed albums. Her fourth album, “White Rabbits,” was released in 2004 on the respected U.S. independent label Mush. Throughout her career, she has toured extensively across the UK, USA, Europe, and Australia, performing solo and more recently with a full band. Riz aims to create a cinematic, multi-media experience in her live shows, combining music with her own photographic slides and films. Her work often reflects her personal journeys through life, offering audiences a relatable and moving experience. In 2000, she established her independent label, Council Folk Recordings, alongside long-time collaborator Paul Jason Fredericks, and has released music under the name Frederick and Nina, as well as with Dose One from Clouddead.
