The New York Dolls were a rock band based in New York City, formed in December 1971 and active until early 1975. The original lineup included Johnny Thunders (guitar), Rick Rivets (guitar), Arthur Kane (bass), Billy Murcia (drums), and David Johansen (vocals). In 1972, Sylvain Sylvain replaced Rivets, and the band began performing regularly in Lower Manhattan. Despite their efforts, they struggled to gain widespread acceptance in the US outside of New York City, largely due to their appearance. Thunders and Nolan departed the band while on tour in Florida in early 1975, leading to a brief period where the band continued under the name "The Dolls" with substitute musicians. The New York Dolls reunited from 2004 to 2011, featuring Johansen and Sylvain with a changing lineup of supporting musicians.
