N'GOMA JAZZ is a band that was formed in 1964 by core members Garcia Kipioca (voice and percussion), José Manuel (Zé Manuel, lead singer), and Petengué (congas). Initially named Ritmo Jazz, the group later became known as Quinteto Angolano, and in 1966, they adopted the name Ngoma Jazz. The distinct sound of the band was shaped significantly by electric guitar player Matumona Sebastião.
