Nick Holmes, born on January 7, 1971, is the founding member of the band Paradise Lost, which he formed in late 1988 alongside his fellow bandmates shortly after finishing secondary school. Initially, the band played Death Metal, with Holmes employing a low, guttural "death grunt" in their early demos and on their debut album "Lost Paradise" (1991), as well as on "Gothic" and "Shades Of God" (1992). Over time, his vocal style evolved to include a more raw but decipherable bellow, as showcased on albums like "Icon" (1993) and "Draconian Times" (1995). With the release of "One Second" in 1997, Holmes began incorporating a 'goth rock croon' alongside the band's shift towards a more electronic musical direction. He is also the primary songwriter for the band, collaborating closely with guitarist Gregor Mackintosh.
