Nico Gomez was a Belgian orchestra leader of Dutch descent, born in 1925 in Amsterdam. He moved to Belgium in 1947 and was active during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, specializing in Latin-flavored big band jazz. Gomez passed away on December 15, 1992, and was the father of a Belgian rocker. Growing up in Curaçao in the Antilles, he was the son of a Dutch father and a South American mother. He later moved to Cuba and traveled through various Caribbean islands, where he developed a deep understanding of South American music. A passionate musician and skilled guitarist, he became familiar with the typical rhythms of the region. Upon arriving in Europe, Gomez settled in Holland and Belgium, where he began his musical career. Initially, he performed as a guitarist and singer in several Dutch-Belgian orchestras. He eventually formed a nine-piece orchestra that gained considerable popularity. In addition to leading his orchestra, Gomez was also recognized as a talented composer and arranger, creating numerous pieces for well-known artists and orchestras.
