Nicolette Larson was an American singer/songwriter born on July 17, 1952, in Helena, Montana. She passed away on December 16, 1997, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 45. Larson is survived by her second husband, a drummer whom she married in 1990, and her daughter, Elsie May Larson-Kunkel, born on July 24, 1990. Throughout her childhood, Larson relocated frequently, living in St. Louis, Missouri; Boston, Massachusetts; Alexandria, Virginia; Birmingham, Alabama; and Portland, Oregon, before settling in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended the University of Missouri – Kansas City and later moved to San Francisco, where she worked at a record store in Berkeley and was hired as a production secretary at the Golden State Country Bluegrass Festival. Larson began her musical career in earnest in the early 1970s, singing with The Nocturnes. She met and later married Nichtern's guitarist, although they divorced in 1978. After relocating to Los Angeles, she became friends with several influential musicians, which led to her contributing backup vocals to Neil Young's albums, including the one featuring "Lotta Love," which became her signature song on her own 1978 debut album. Over the years, Larson provided harmonies for various artists and recorded four solo albums for Warner Bros. before moving to Nashville, where she released her MCA debut album, earning the Country
