Nikakoi is an electronic music project by Georgian musician, producer, composer, and filmmaker Nika Machaidze. He began creating electronic music in the mid-nineties, blending digital noises and IDM rhythms with melancholic melodies often inspired by Georgian folk music. In 1999, he won the Grand Prix at the Electronic Music Festival in Paris under the pseudonym 'Nikakoi', which means “none”, “undefined”, or “featureless” in Russian. Nikakoi released his debut album in 2002 in Berlin, followed by another release the next year. After a few years, Machaidze returned in 2009 with two releases on Laboratory Instinct: a 2xCD compilation featuring best tracks from his previous albums along with unreleased material, and a new double ambient album that marked a significant shift in his artistic style. This album consisted of two rhythmless ambient tracks and a collection of piano-based electronic soundscapes on the second disc. In 2012, he released a new album in Japan, a collaboration with a Tokyo-based musician. His most recent work, an EP, was released in 2016.
