Nikolai Yakovlevich Myaskovsky was a prominent composer, teacher, and music critic, often referred to as the "father of the Soviet symphony." Born on April 20, 1881, in Modlin, Warsaw Governorate of the Russian Empire (now Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki, Poland), he made significant contributions to music throughout his life. Myaskovsky was honored as a People's Artist of the USSR in 1946 and received five Stalin Prizes during his lifetime, in 1941, 1946 (twice), 1950, and posthumously in 1951. He passed away on August 8, 1950, in Moscow, USSR.
