**Ninon Sevilla** *Born:* November 10, 1921, La Habana, Havana, Cuba *Died:* January 1, 2015, Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico Ninon Sevilla was a Cuban-Mexican film actress and dancer, renowned as one of the greatest Cuban stars and a principal exponent of the Rumberas film during the golden age of Mexican cinema. She adopted her stage name in tribute to the legendary French courtesan Ninon de Lenclos. Initially considering a religious vocation, Sevilla shifted her focus to a career in show business after finding success dancing in nightclubs and cabarets in Cuba. Sevilla moved to Mexico as part of a show featuring Libertad Lamarque, and her talent contributed to the rise of musician Dámaso Pérez Prado, known as the "King of mambo." Her film debut came in 1946 with *Carita de Cielo*, leading to a successful career under producer Pedro Arturo Calderón. Despite offers from major studios like Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Columbia Pictures, Sevilla chose to remain in Mexico. She became known for her eccentric hairstyles and gowns, and filmmaker Alberto Gout established her as an erotic figure in Mexican cinema with films like *Aventurera* (1949) and *Sensualidad* (1950).
