Nipsey Hussle, born Ermias Davidson Asghedom on August 15, 1985, was an American rapper and songwriter from Los Angeles, California. Growing up in South Central, specifically on Crenshaw Blvd & Slauson Ave, he became associated with the Rollin' 60's Neighborhood Crips gang. Of Eritrean ethnicity, Nipsey began his music career with the mixtape Slauson Boy Volume 1, which later became the name of his record label. In 2008, he released two mixtapes, Bullets Ain't Got No Name Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, before signing with Epic Records. His debut single, "Hussle In The House," came out in 2009, along with a third mixtape, Bullets Ain't Got No Name Vol. 3. He collaborated with Drake on "Killer" and appeared on Snoop Dogg's album Malice N Wonderland. Although his first studio album, South Central State of Mind, was expected in 2009, it was never released, and instead, The Marathon mixtape was launched on December 21, 2010. In 2010, he participated in "We Are the World 25 for Haiti" and was recognized by XXL Magazine as one of the "Annual Freshman Top Ten."
