Nirvana was a rock/grunge band formed in March 1987 in Aberdeen, Washington, USA. Emerging from the Seattle grunge scene of the late 1980s and early 1990s, the band was a power trio that significantly impacted the rock landscape of the time. They initially released their debut LP with Sub Pop, but it was their 1991 major-label debut that propelled both the band and the grunge genre into the mainstream. The band's final lineup consisted of Kurt Cobain as lead guitarist and vocalist, Krist Novoselic on bass and accordion, and Dave Grohl on drums and backing vocals. Cobain's death by suicide in April 1994 marked the end of the band. Throughout their history, Nirvana went through several name changes, with brief rumors of earlier names like Throat Oyster and Windowpane. The band had various members and touring musicians over the years, including drummers and guitarists who contributed to their sound during different periods. Despite their relatively short career, Nirvana's influence on music continues to resonate today.
