Nitty Gritty, born in 1957, was a Jamaican singer who gained prominence during the first wave of digital ragga. He is best known for his dancehall rendition of the traditional Jamaican song "Hog In A Minty," along with other significant hits like "Sweet Reggae Music" and "Good Morning Teacher." Tragically, on June 24, 1991, he was shot dead in front of Super Power Record Shop in Brooklyn, New York, at the age of 34. Initially, a deejay was suspected in his murder but was later cleared.
