Notchnoi Prospekt, formed in Moscow in 1985, consists of Alexei Borisov (guitar, vocals, lyrics) and Ivan Sokolovsky (keyboards, electronics). Initially, the duo played electro-pop infused with elements of rockabilly, twist, ska, post-punk, and industrial music. In 1987, they were joined by drummer Sergei Pavlov and violinist Dmitry Kutergin, which led the band to evolve into a sound that blended industrial electronics with psychedelia, noise, free improvisation, and absurdism. Throughout the 1980s, Notchnoi Prospekt gained popularity in Russia, performing at various concerts and rock and art festivals. Notable live performances and recordings from this period include "Humanitarian Life" (1986), "New Physicists" (1987), "Democracy and Discipline" (1987/88), "Acids" (1988/89), and "Asbastos" (1989/91). Their first concert outside of Russia took place in Vienna in 1989 at the "Stalingrad" club, followed by a tour in Scandinavia and the release of the "Sugar" LP through the "Accelerating Blue Fish" label in Malmö, Sweden. Sokolovsky left the band at the end of 1989 to pursue a solo career, and Notchnoi Prospekt remained active until 1995, after which it transformed into an experimental modular project
