Non
Boyd Rice is an experimental and industrial artist from the USA, originally part of a duo known as NON, formed in 1978. After Robert Turman left in 1979, NON became a solo project for Boyd. His exploration of noise began in the mid '70s using a tape recorder and loops of girl groups, transforming pop music into continuous drones. His first collection, "The Black Album," was self-released in 1977 and later re-released as "Boyd Rice" by Mute Records in 1981. Boyd met Daniel Miller, the head of Mute Records, at his first gig in the UK, where he performed alongside other artists, and was among the first to be signed to Mute. He is known for his 7" records featuring treated noise loop grooves that can be played at various speeds and off-center due to extra drilled holes, with "Knife Ladder" being his first release as NON. In addition to his work under the NON name, Boyd Rice also releases music under his own name and as Boyd Rice And Friends, collaborates on spoken word projects as The Boyd Rice Experience, and performs 60s pop songs in a cover band. He has made various appearances on works by Blood Axis, Current 93, Death In June, and others.
