Norman Connors is an American jazz drummer, composer, arranger, producer, and artist, born on March 1, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He developed an interest in jazz at an early age and began playing drums while growing up in Philadelphia. Connors was influenced by a notable drummer and had the opportunity to sit in for a performance during middle school. He later pursued formal music education at Temple University and Juilliard. Connors made his recording debut in 1967 and spent the following years playing with various artists before signing with a sublabel where he released his first album as a bandleader, titled "Dance of Magic," in 1972. In the mid-1970s, he shifted his focus to R'n'B material after signing with Buddah Records, where he also served as the A&R manager. Throughout his career, Connors led jazz recordings featuring collaborations with artists such as Phyllis Hyman, Michael Henderson, and Jean Carne. His work in the mid-1970s included sophisticated R'n'B and soul material, featuring guest singers and becoming a staple for jazz-fusion and jazz dance enthusiasts. Notable tracks include "You Are My Starship" from the album "Dance of Magic" (1974) and "Captain Connors" from the album "This Is Your Life" (1977).
