Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was a world-renowned Pakistani musician, celebrated primarily for his Qawwali singing, a form of devotional music associated with Sufism, a mystical tradition within Islam. He was born on October 13, 1948, in Lyallpur, Punjab, Pakistan, and passed away on August 16, 1997, at Cromwell Hospital in London, England. Nusrat's family has maintained an unbroken tradition of performing Qawwali for approximately 600 years. He is the older brother of, cousin of, and uncle of notable figures in the music industry.
