Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was a world-renowned Pakistani musician, primarily known for his singing of Qawwali, the devotional music of the Sufis, a mystical tradition within Islam. He was born on October 13, 1948, in Lyallpur, Punjab, Pakistan, and passed away on August 16, 1997, at Cromwell Hospital in London, England. Nusrat's family has maintained an unbroken tradition of performing Qawwali for approximately 600 years. He was the older brother of one individual, the cousin of another, and the uncle of yet another.
