O. C. Tolbert was an American soul artist born on July 11, 1944, in Selma, Alabama. He was the son of an Alabama preacher, who gave him the nickname "O.C." because he believed he acted like his brother, Arthur's uncle. Tolbert began his music career in 1966 and moved to Detroit, Michigan, in 1967 in search of fame, but initially found little success. He later met a producer and released his first album in 1970. Tolbert passed away in 1997 due to a heart attack. He was married.
