Obibini Takyi, born in 1966 in Asante Akyem Atwedie, Ashanti region, Ghana, was the son of the late Mr. Solomon Kwadwo Baah and Madam Adwoa Boakyewaa. He began his musical career with Yamoah's Band and later collaborated with Amakye Dede to form The Apollo Highkings in 1982 in Agogo. In 1983, he joined the Air Force band Sky Hawks in Takoradi. In 1985, he moved to Nigeria and established The Lakayama Band. Upon returning to Ghana, he formed The African Tops before relocating to Europe. Obibini Takyi passed away in 2000 after a period of illness.
