Ocote Soul Sounds was founded by Martin Perna in 2001, initially releasing a 45rpm single on Fruitmeat Records. In 2004, the band began collaborating with Adrian Quesada, resulting in the release of "Ocote Soul Sounds and Adrian Quesada: El Niño y El Sol." In 2009, they shortened their name to "Ocote Soul Sounds." The band has released four albums on ESL Records and, in April 2016, re-released digital versions of their work on the Level One label.
