Odia Coates was an American singer born on November 13, 1941, in Vicksburg, Warren County, Mississippi. She gained recognition for her high-profile hits with Canadian singer-songwriter Paul Anka. The daughter of an evangelical minister, Odia's family moved to Watts, California, during her childhood, where her father served as pastor at the Beautiful Gates Church Of God In Christ. It was there that she began singing in the church choir. Odia later became a member of the Northern California State Youth Choir, co-founded by Edwin Hawkins, and subsequently joined The Sisters Love. She passed away on May 19, 1991, at the age of 49 in Oakland, Alameda County, California.
