Ojos de Brujo, which translates to Eyes of the Wizard, is a Barcelona-based flamenco fusion group that originated as a collective in the mid-'90s. The group was formed by guitarist Ramon Giménez, who collaborated with experimental musicians such as singer Marina "La Canillas" Abad and percussionist Xavi Turull to explore new sounds. In 1999, they officially became a group and released their first album, Vengue, which was entirely self-produced and self-recorded. The lineup included Giménez, Abad, turntablist DJ Panko, percussionists Sergio Ramos, Turull, and Maxwell Wright, and guitarist Paco Lomeña. They followed up with their second album, Barí, in 2002, which was also self-produced and led to an extensive world tour that expanded their fan base and introduced them to various musicians globally. This experience inspired the band to further develop their sound, culminating in their next album, Techarí, released in 2006, which featured Cuban trumpet player Carlos Sarduy.
