Olive is a musical group formed in 1995 by singer Ruth-Ann Boyle, keyboardist Tim Kellett, and beat-master Robin Taylor-Firth. Kellett was previously a member of the band for their first nine years and collaborated with a UK pop-soul band. Taylor-Firth was one of the original members of another band. Ruth-Ann Boyle, hailing from Sunderland, had not sung professionally before the formation of Olive and had been performing in local bands. Kellett discovered Boyle's voice while playing a gig in Portugal, where he sampled her vocals and was impressed enough to inquire about her identity. Olive achieved significant success with their hit "You're Not Alone," which reached Number 1 on the UK official charts on May 17th, 1997, for two weeks, despite initially peaking at number 42 upon its original release on September 7th, 1996.
