Oliver Heart, known professionally as Oliver Cheatham, was an American R&B singer born on February 24, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan. He was first inspired to sing by his gospel-trained mother and began his musical journey with various groups, including The Young Sirs, Butch and the Newports, Mad Dog And The Pups, and The Gaslight. His first single, "Hard Times," was released on his local label, Tier. Cheatham later became the lead singer of the band Sins Of Satan, which was renamed Roundtrip and then Oliver. After two albums with the group, he signed with MCA as a solo artist. In spring 1983, he achieved his biggest hit with "Get Down Saturday Night," co-written with One Way keyboardist Kevin McCord, which reached number 37 on Billboard's R&B chart. This track was featured on his album 'Saturday Night,' released in the summer of 1983, which also included the dance track "Make Up Your Mind." The follow-up single, "Bless The Ladies," was another notable release. In 1993, Cheatham appeared on the track "Gotta Let Yourself Go," based on his earlier hit, and in 2003, he was featured on "Make Luv," which also drew inspiration from his work. He lived in Surrey, UK, until his passing on November 29, 2013, in Detroit, Michigan, at the age of 65.
