Ora Clementi is a duo consisting of Canadian sound artist crys cole and Australian composer/performer James Rushford. Their collaboration explores liminal performance states within an interpersonal context, often emphasizing text and speech as preconscious thought processes. Central to their work are inquiries into interpretation, memory, semiotics, and the syntactical discipline of sound for both the listener and the performer. They employ various musical approaches in unconventional and disorienting ways, incorporating field recordings, electronics, contact mics, a range of wind and keyboard instruments, percussion, and voice. Through movement, conceptual performance practice, and both amplified and acoustic sound, Ora Clementi navigates the nuances of sensory perception, aiming to create a dreamlike atmosphere that exists between musical performance and pure abstraction.
