Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (commonly known as OMD) is an English electronic band formed in 1978 in Wirral, Merseyside, by Paul Humphreys and Andy McCluskey. They initially performed under names like 'VCL XI' and 'Hitlerz Underpantz' and played their first gig at Eric's in Liverpool. After a series of UK chart hits, they transitioned from Factory Records to the Virgin-owned label DinDisc, starting with the release of "Messages" in 1980. The band evolved to include drummer Malcolm Holmes and synth player Dave Hughes, who became full members in 1980. Hughes left later that year and was replaced by Martin Cooper. Humphreys departed the group in 1989, allowing McCluskey to retain the name. OMD made a comeback in 1991 with the UK top 5 hit "Sailing On The Seven Seas" and achieved a top 3 album with "Sugar Tax." Following a solo period, McCluskey announced a reunion on New Year's Day 2006. In 2007, OMD toured with the classic lineup of McCluskey, Humphreys, Holmes, and Cooper, releasing a live album in 2008 titled "OMD Live: Architecture & Morality & More."
