Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD) is an English electronic band formed in 1978 in Wirral, Merseyside, by Paul Humphreys and Andy McCluskey. The band initially performed under names such as 'VCL XI' and 'Hitlerz Underpantz'. They played their first gig at Eric's in Liverpool and gained popularity with a series of UK chart hits after moving from Factory Records to Virgin's DinDisc label, starting with the release of "Messages" in 1980. The lineup expanded that year with drummer Malcolm Holmes and synth player Dave Hughes, who was later replaced by Martin Cooper. Humphreys departed the group in 1989, allowing McCluskey to retain the band's name. OMD made a comeback in 1991 with the hit "Sailing On The Seven Seas" and the successful album "Sugar Tax". After a period of solo activity, McCluskey announced a reunion on January 1, 2006. In 2007, the classic lineup reunited for a tour and released a live album in 2008 titled "OMD Live: Architecture & Morality & More". Since then, they have released four studio albums and continued to tour regularly. In 2023, they achieved their highest-charting album to date with "Bauhaus Staircase," which debuted at No. 2 on the UK Charts.
