Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) is an English electronic band formed in 1978 in Wirral, Merseyside, by Paul Humphreys and Andy McCluskey. They initially performed under names such as 'VCL XI' and 'Hitlerz Underpantz' before playing their first gig at Eric's in Liverpool. OMD gained popularity with a series of UK chart hits after transitioning from Factory Records to Virgin's DinDisc label, starting with their 1980 release "Messages." In 1980, drummer Malcolm Holmes and synth player Dave Hughes became full members, with Hughes later replaced by Martin Cooper. Humphreys departed the group in 1989, allowing McCluskey to retain the band's name. OMD made a comeback in 1991 with the hit "Sailing On The Seven Seas" and the top 3 album "Sugar Tax." After a period as a solo act, McCluskey announced a reunion on January 1, 2006. The classic lineup, including McCluskey, Humphreys, Holmes, and Cooper, reunited for a tour in 2007 and released a live album in 2008 titled "OMD Live: Architecture & Morality & More."
