Orlando Voorn, born on April 25, 1968, in Amsterdam, is a pioneering Dutch musician known for bridging the gap between Detroit and Amsterdam in the electronic dance music scene. He began his DJ career at the age of 12, winning the Dutch DMC DJ Championships in 1986 with a unique blend of hip-hop and electro. In the late 1980s, Voorn transitioned to producing after acquiring his first sequencer. In the early 1990s, he released a series of dancefloor tracks under the name Frequency for Lower East Side Records. His connections with influential figures like Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Blake Baxter led to collaborations, and he also recorded under various aliases, including Nighttripper, Format, Basic Bastard, and Stalker. Many of his tracks are featured on the compilation album "Best of Nightvision." Voorn has established himself as an inventive producer, exploring techno, ambient, and hip-hop while avoiding genre limitations. His announcement of the "Redeye" album, which would delve into drum’n’bass, sparked anticipation due to his talent for melody and understanding of atmosphere and tension in music. Like Squarepusher, Amon Tobin, and Photek, he uses drum’n’bass rhythms to create music that transcends traditional dance tracks.
