Osanna is an Italian progressive rock band formed in 1971 in Naples, emerging from the ashes of I Volti di Pietra and Città Frontale. The group initially included members with varying musical backgrounds, such as keyboardist Gianni Leone, who later joined Balletto di Bronzo, and reeds player Elio D'Anna, who came from Showmen. Despite their four-year lifespan, Osanna left behind four notable albums, with "Palepoli" often highlighted as a standout. Their debut album, "L'uomo," featured a memorable triple gatefold cover and showcased the distinctive elements of the band, including the vocals of Lino Vairetti, the aggressive flute work of Elio D'Anna, and the fluid guitar playing of Danilo Rustici. The tracks "L'uomo" and "In un vecchio cieco" were released as singles. Osanna was known for their intense live performances, often collaborating with theatrical groups and even sharing the stage with Genesis during their early Italian tour. The band's second album, "Preludio, tema, variazioni, canzona," also known as "Milano calibro 9," was less well-received, mixing original compositions with orchestral themes by composer Bacalov.
