**Otis Leavill Biography** Otis Leavill was born on February 8, 1937, in Dewey Rose, Georgia, and passed away on July 17, 2002, in Chicago. He began his music career with the release of his first record, "Ride Sally Ride," on Mercury's Limelight subsidiary. His subsequent release, "Gotta Right to Cry," a song by Curtis Mayfield, came out on Lucky Records, following Major Lance's earlier version in 1963. Leavill gained significant recognition with his third release, "Let Her Love Me," in 1966, which reached number 31 on Billboard's R&B chart and became Blue Rock Records' first national hit. This success led to his first touring opportunity with Dick Clark's Caravan of Stars. Before his rise to fame, Leavill worked closely with record producer Carl Davis at Okeh Records, where he helped manage artists and musicians. He had an eye for talent, discovering groups such as the Chi-lites and Tyrone Davis. Notably, he and Davis passed on the opportunity to work with young singers Yvette Stevens (later known as Chaka Khan) and Yvonne Stevens (Taka Boom). Leavill continued his career at Blue Rock Records, recording memorable songs like "To Be or Not to Be" and "Let Me Live."
