Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Orchestra (ONJO) is a Japanese experimental/free jazz/electroacoustic improv ensemble led by composer, sound producer, turntablist, and guitarist Otomo Yoshihide. Formed in January 2005, ONJO made its debut with live concerts in Shinjuku and recorded its first two albums just two days apart at a studio in Tokyo. The first CD featured Yoshihide's favorite "standards," including pieces by various composers alongside his original music. The second CD was a complete cover of a renowned 1964 masterpiece, with its design replicating the iconic sleeve of the original album. Both albums were released in Japan the same year. In 2006, ONJO toured extensively across Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, and Croatia, inviting various guests to perform, including a large string section. This tour was documented in two 2xCD sets released in the summer of 2007. In September 2022, the Belgian label re-issued ONJO's work on 2xLP, marking the orchestra's first and only vinyl release. The original members from 2004 to 2005 included Otomo Yoshihide, Axel Dörner, Taisei Aoki, Kenta Tsugami, Masahiko Okura, Alfred Harth, Mats Gustafsson, Ko Ishikawa, Sachiko M, Toshimaru Nakamura, Taku Unami, Kumiko
