Umm Kulthum, born Umm Kulthum Ibrahim al-Sayed al-Biltaji on December 31, 1898, in Tamay ez-Zahayra (though some sources suggest May 4, 1904), was an iconic Egyptian singer, songwriter, and actress. She gained international fame from the 1920s to the 1970s and is celebrated as Kawkab al-Sharq, meaning "Star of the East." Widely regarded as the greatest Arabic female singer in history, Umm Kulthum's entire catalogue was acquired by Mazzika Group in 2003, marking it as a significant asset of Arab culture. She passed away on February 3, 1975, in Cairo.
