**Bio: Overkill** Overkill is a thrash/groove metal band formed in 1980 in Old Bridge Township, New Jersey, originally under the name Virgin Killer. The band quickly changed its name to Overkill, inspired by a Motörhead album. The founding members included D.D. Verni and Rat Skates, who were previously part of a punk band called The Lubricunts. Following the breakup of that band, D.D. placed an ad that led to the recruitment of guitarist Robert Pisarek, who was soon replaced by Dan Spitz and Anthony Ammendolo. In their early days, Overkill primarily performed punk covers, including songs by the Ramones and The Dead Boys. By 1980, they had expanded their setlist to include tracks from Motörhead, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Riot, while still incorporating some punk covers with a heavier sound. In 1981, Dan Spitz and Anthony Ammendolo departed, and Rich Conte and Mike Sherry joined the band. During this period, Overkill began writing original material, including songs like "Grave Robbers," "Raise the Dead," "Overkill," and "Unleash the Beast Within." The band became a staple in New York and New Jersey clubs, and in 1983, Bobby Blitz earned his nickname after a brief ejection from the band.
