Padded Cell is a musical duo consisting of Richard Sen and Neil Beatnik, who emerged in 2002. Both artists gained recognition in the music scene, with Sen known for his work as a Bronx Dog (Heavenly) and Beatnik as a Dirty Beatnik (Wall of Sound). Padded Cell was formed partly in response to the conservatism of early millennium dance music, serving as a platform for them to explore and express their most adventurous ideas. With a shared background as club DJs and producers, their sound is crafted to maintain a dance floor focus, blending disco breaks, rolling percussion, and menacing synths with electro influences and live instrumentation. This unique combination has led to their music being described as ‘dark-disco’, ‘goth-disco-rock’, and notably, ‘devils-disco’.
