Panal was an experimental rock band from Chile, formed in Santiago in 1973. Their self-titled debut album, recorded that same year, has since become one of the most unique pieces in the catalog of the IRT label. The band's musical proposal combined elements of progressive rock, Latin jazz, Afro-Latin music, and South American folklore, characterized by a sound open to experimentation and complex instrumental arrangements. The group consisted of experienced local musicians, including Carlos Corales (guitar), Francisco "Pancho" Aranda (organ and vocals), Denise Corales (vocals and minor percussion), José "Pepe" Ureta (bass), Patricio Salazar (drums), Iván Ahumada (percussion), and Juan Hernández (percussion). Their album featured covers of traditional Latin American songs such as "Alma llanera," "Cucurrucucú paloma," and "Si somos americanos," along with original compositions, all approached with a psychedelic aesthetic and a free-form style, devoid of conventional structures. The album was recorded at IRT Studios under the engineering of Franz Benko and is notable for its instrumental richness, use of syncopated rhythms, and fusion of styles. The only documented live performance of the group took place at the Viña del Mar Festival in 1973. Shortly after, lacking commercial continuity or promotion, the band disbanded. For decades, the original LP edition became a cult item among vinyl collectors and fans
