Pastor T.L. Barrett, born on January 13, 1944, is a Chicago-based preacher and musician known for leading a youth choir during the late 1960s and early 1970s. He gained recognition for his classic gospel record "Like A Ship…(Without A Sail)." While Barrett released several gospel albums in the 1970s, he remained largely unknown outside of Chicago until a resurgence of interest in his music in the 2010s. In 1989, he faced legal issues when he was charged with orchestrating a pyramid scheme that involved encouraging his congregants to donate to economic development fundraisers, which raised over two million dollars. By 1998, he was ordered to repay 1.2 million dollars, which he successfully accomplished.
