Patrick Michael Zill, known as Pat Zill, was born on April 27, 1925, in Youngstown, Ohio, and passed away on July 18, 2015, in Snellville, Georgia. A former Marine, he initially pursued a career as a professional boxer. After retiring from boxing, he opened the Boathouse Lounge in Whitehall, Ohio, where he became known as a singing bartender. He recorded a version of "Pick Me Up On Your Way Down" in Nashville, which gained popularity on both the country and pop charts. In his later years, Zill served as a trainer and manager for professional fighter Jeff Jordan and promoted boxing events, while continuing to sing and record music.
