Patti Jo, born on September 13, 1947, in Otter Creek, Florida, grew up in DeLand before moving to Miami in her teens. She gained recognition by competing in talent shows, which led to her being noticed by WMBM radio. Patti began her music career and later moved to New York, where she starred in the Broadway production of "Purlie" and made appearances on major talk shows in the 1970s, including those hosted by Mike Douglas, Merv Griffin, and David Frost. In the 1980s, Patti returned to DeLand and continued to perform alongside her husband, singer Edwin Butler, who had previously been a member of the Prolifics. Patti Jo passed away on July 30, 2007.
